Busan & Seoul

December has been quite the busy month! I attended my first horse race in Jeju which was rather interesting. The course was beautiful and there was definitely a good amount of people watching. If you would like to read more about horse racing in Jeju please click the link below:

I also attended a hot spring with Kim and Devin. There was an outside area that was co-ed (swimming suits or if you are Korean long sleeves and pants) and there was an indoors where you can frolic around nakey with a million other women or men. This is quite the experience! Unfortunately, or perhaps I should say fortunately there are no pictures of this adventure besides the outside view.

The students are going on break in Korea now as they will have most of January and February off. As promised, the students have earned a movie day or two so my last 2 weeks in December have been pretty simple. I have been planning for winter camps as I will teach the first 2 week in January to new students. Each camp has a theme in which I plan various activities around. My first camp is superhero themed and the second camp is How to Train Your Dragon themed. Should be fun!

For Christmas, I visited Busan with some of the other islanders. What a nice time! We met with my friends Jess and Erin who I will be traveling with to Thailand soon. We ate delicious Indian food for Christmas dinner, did a small hike and cable car ride up a mountain, did some shopping, drank too much, visited the Gamcheon culture village, saw Christmas lights with the other millions of people, enjoyed a nice house party, did some dancing, and enjoyed our time staying at a hostel on Gwangalli beach. Please see all my pictures below!
This picture doesn't give the moment justice in the least. Basically, people buy these delicate cookie crisps things that have a cookie cutter type shape. Then they use these push pins to ever so carefully dot around the shape until the shape comes out. And no I did not try this I simply just observed.  hah!

 I'm such an angel! mehehehe

We stayed at this lovely hostel! Wendy greeted us with mulled wine in the evening and made us breakfast on Christmas morning! She was such a sweet host and I would highly recommend staying here.

We enjoyed a delicious Indian dinner for Christmas!
The streets were so crowded! Where are all these people going? It was nuts!

 Yes...that is cotton candy! hahaha
All around Busan are these cabbage plants. They are pretty and grow well. I suppose if you are hungry just grab a leaf!
 Look at all the people!!!!

For New Years, I visited Seoul for my first time! I must say, I really loved Seoul and I can't wait to go back. While Seoul is one of the biggest cities in terms of population, it never felt too crowded. Perhaps the layout of the city itself made it seem less crowded as there are various parts of Seoul such as Gangnam, Itaewon, and Hongdae (these are the three parts I visited). The first evening I met with Kim, Brandon, Jess, Jacob, and Amy for a night out in Hongdae for New Years! What fun! The rest of the weekend was spent wandering around this massive city, shopping, eating, drinking, and simply site seeing. I have some pictures below!

This spaceship looking building is a museum!

Hello Kitty Cafe! haha!
There are these dog cafes where you literally drink your coffee and play with dogs or cats hahaha

The students only learning from the best! Bwhahaha

The weeks after Busan and Seoul are spent at camps. My first camp is themed "How to Train your Dragon" and involves learning about vikings and dragons. For activities the students came up with a viking name, wrote viking messages, and built a dragon using clay. This was such a nice week as the school was very welcoming, the students were a pleasure to teach, we had fun, there were snacks, and I worked half days! This upcoming week I will be doing a superhero camp in Shin Jeju. On January 16th I take off for Thailand and Cambodia for 2 weeks. I'm so excited!!! Many pics to come! Thanks for reading!
